I saw this line of police cruisers down on Canal and stopped to ask one of the officers about the practice of driving around in long lines of patrol cars with their lights on. One officer told me the practice is called Critical. Another described it as, “a counter-terrorist manuver.” When asked whether it works, he replied, “We haven’t been attacked yet!”
While taking this photo a woman asked what was going on. When asked if she had ever seen this phenenon before she said no. I explained and she replied, “At least I can get on the subway now. I was worried something had happened.” This is probably a common reaction as I have not seen publicity or press about this practice.

One of my favorite photos of the 2005 Michael Jackson trial taken by Mark Velasquez. Sadly it’s not up on his Flickr stream but you can see it on his website. Jacko wasn’t so great at the end but I never get tired of listening to Off The Wall or Thriller.

I still love Twitter but these findings aren’t that surprising considering the Ashton Kucher VS. CNN battle and other Twitter press that likely created a ton of accounts that aren’t actively used.
Information graphics by Michael Neff. Data from Purewire.
I can’t believe it took 2 years of disuse to finally cancel the fucking account.
Uh, Laura is Laura Veirs. If you don’t know her music go look her up; Year of Meteors, Carbon Glacier and Saltbreakers are fantastic albums. If you live near Portland go take lessons for the love of god! This is like Death Cab teaching guitar!
Some great new work from Derek Sullivan
